There are two types of car suitable for carrying wheelchairs. The most common is a conventional and unmodified model which has enough space to carry any mobility devices, either folded or unfolded. Such a vehicle may include mechanisms such as a hoist to help lift and load heavier equipment.
The more involved conversions are called Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, or WAVs for short. These are converted by specialists to accept the occupant in the chair either as a passenger or driver, and are usually tailored to the individual.
