The rise of electric SUVs has been momentous. Several manufacturers have locked into this popular car design for their latest battery-powered models, riding a wave of interest in cars that have the look and feel of a true off-roader but bring lower running costs and a silky-smooth driving experience.
Here at Eden, we’ve got a variety of electric SUVs that are worth checking out today and in this article, we’re going to be going through them and exploring just what they can offer.
Vauxhall’s line-up of electric SUVs kicks off with the Mokka Electric. It’s the smallest electric SUV that the firm offers and that means it’s great if you’re often short on parking space or would prefer a more compact vehicle overall. However, you still get the same raised-up seating position that you’ll find in larger models, giving you a great view of the road ahead.
Underneath the Mokka’s eye-catching design is some cutting-edge technology, too, including a battery and motor setup capable of delivering up to 252 miles of range between charges. Plus, a 10 to 80 per cent top-up can be completed in as little as 30 minutes via a rapid charger, meaning that those stopovers are going to be short.
If you need a little extra space over the Mokka Electric, then the Grandland Electric is a great place to head. It’s one of Vauxhall’s latest electric SUVs - and is new to us here at Eden, too - and takes design cues from the firm’s head-turning Experimental Concept Car but brings it to the open road and our dealerships, as well.
In electric form—you can get the Grandland with petrol and plug-in hybrid setups, too—you could get an impressive 435 miles from a single charge, so longer journeys are a possibility with this Grandland.
Hyundai was one of the frontrunners in the electric car development game and it’ll come as no surprise that the Korean firm has a strong presence in the electric SUV segment, too. One of its most popular options is the Kona Electric, which delivers a practical and well-made interior housed within a very smart and edgy exterior design.
It’s got a range of up to 319 in the largest battery form, too, and you’ll also find that the Kona Electric is equipped with vehicle-to-load technology. With this, you can use the car’s three-pin plug and onboard energy supply to power domestic appliances, such as torches, air pumps or even toasters. A futuristic design is one of the core appeals of Hyundai’s now-iconic Ioniq 5. The exterior of the Ioniq 5 looks straight out of a sci-fi film and with its edgy headlights and sharp, angular lines it’s a car for those that like to make an entrance.
It’s inside where the fun starts, however, as with a 12-inch main display and 12-inch digital instrument cluster, it feels just as high-tech inside as it looks from the outside. The Ioniq 5 brings a range of up to 354 miles from a full charge, too.
Launching Peugeot’s range of electric SUVs is the e-2008, a compact model which gets all of the striking design touches that we’ve come to expect from the French firm but in a compact model. It’s remarkably spacious inside, however, while a 434-litre boot is usefully sized and can be expanded to 1,467 litres by folding down the rear seats.
Light and nippy to drive, the e-2008 delivers strongly in terms of range, too, with Peugeot claiming up to 250 miles of range and an ability to add 62 miles worth of battery power in only 12 minutes.
Moving up a size brings us to this: the Peugeot e-3008. It’s one of Peugeot’s most popular electric SUVs, owing to its family-friendly size and excellent 310 miles of range. Recently updated, the e-3008 has got all of Peugeot’s latest design touches, too, including an ultra-wide front grille and super-sharp LED headlights.
Move to the cabin and you’ll find the latest incarnation of Peugot’s clever i-Cockpit digital display setup, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow you to easily mirror your smartphone’s apps on the car’s main screen.
MG is one of the biggest names in the electric car market currently owing to its great line-up of models, which offer plenty of range at an affordable price—you'll find many of them available via our site, too. But it’s the MG ZS EV that enters the battery-powered SUV segment, delivering a chunky, upright design and a spacious, well-specified interior at a price which undercuts many rivals.
It’s got a range of up to 279 miles, too, while clever iSMART live services allow you to get real-time traffic updates when you’re on the move and will even let you check your car’s status, unlock and lock it, or pre-set the air conditioning via a smartphone app.
As we’ve seen in this article, Eden currently has a great lineup of electric SUVs to check out today. If you’d like to find out more, search for other vehicles in our range, or ask one of the team members a question, head on over to our site.
