Hatchbacks have always been central to Vauxhall’s range of cars. While SUVs and crossovers have grown in popularity over recent years, you’ll still find hatchbacks playing a core role in Vauxhall’s new-car strategy, with these two models—the Astra and the Corsa - remaining firm favourites among buyers.
Though you’ll find both of these cars available via our website, how do they differ and which one could work for you? In this article, we’re going to be exploring what the Vauxhall Astra and Corsa have to offer.
You’ll find both cars here showing Vauxhall’s latest - and eye-catching- design. Centred around the ‘Vizor’ front end, both the Astra and Corsa are cars for turning heads in. You’ll find a variety of exterior shades to choose from, too, with Vauxhall’s deep blue colours looking particularly good on both cars.
Where they differ, of course, is their proportions. The Corsa is the smaller of the two and has those classic compact hatchback design cues, such as the sharp bootline and low roofline. The Astra, meanwhile, is more like your typical family hatch though it can also be specified as a more practical Estate version, which also adds some extra flair to this car’s design.
Hatchbacks have always been designed around offering plenty of interior space and you’ll find that in spades with both of these cars. Being the smaller of the two doesn’t mean that the Corsa isn’t a spacious option, either, as you’ll still find a decent level of both head and legroom in the rear of the car. There is a selection of cubbies for storage up front, too.
Move to the larger Astra and you will find more room to use. Headroom is just what you’d expect from this size and shape of the car and there are some useful door bins in the back too. Those sitting up front in the Astra are treated to loads of space, however, with excellent levels of both leg and headroom which can help to make all types of journeys more comfortable.
Boot space is a big consideration in this segment. The Astra offers up a generous 422 litres of luggage space, expandable to 1,389 litres with the rear seats folded flat. It’s a versatile space, too, with a nice flat load area that is easy to access and simple to load, even with heavier items. Need a more practical option? The Astra Sports Tourer brings a hefty 597 litres of luggage space or 1,634 litres with them folded down.
The Corsa is still respectable in the boot space department, despite being the smaller of the two cars here. At 309 litres it’s got a decent amount of room to offer and you can expand this to 1,118 litres by folding down the rear seats.
Technology is a key focus of the latest Vauxhall cars and you’ll find plenty of the latest features aboard the Astra and Corsa. The latter car gets a seven-inch touchscreen as standard, including both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems for hassle-free smartphone connectivity. Pick a higher-grade Corsa and you’ll see this screen increased to a 10-inch version, too.
Switch to the Astra and you’ll get a similarly high level of technology included. It’s all based around a clever PurePanel setup which blends a series of screens into one piece of trim to give it a wraparound look. In the centre is a 10-inch infotainment screen, bolstered by a secondary display of the same size ahead of the driver. Both incorporate high-quality graphics and include a variety of media, navigation and driving information.
It’s all about choice with the powertrain options on the Astra and Corsa. Both get an electric version, too, with the Vauxhall Corsa delivering a range of up to 222 miles from a single charge, while the Astra brings a range of up to 258 miles between trips to the plug.
However, if you’re after a middle ground then the Vauxhall Astra is available with a plug-in hybrid setup capable of delivering an electric-only range of up to 23 miles - as well as considerably lower fuel consumption - while mild-hybrid technology is available on the Corsa. You can get both the Corsa and Astra with conventional petrol engines, too, if you’d like a more ‘traditional’ engine option.
Hatchbacks have always managed to deliver excellent value-for-money and it’s good news if you’re interested in either the Vauxhall Corsa or Astra as you’ll find both deliver a budget-busting experience. Standard features on the Astra include the aforementioned 10-inch media display, alongside 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control and cruise control, to name but a few features.
The Corsa, meanwhile, is also packed with equipment. Full LED headlights come included from the start, as well as lane departure warning, a six-speaker sound system, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Both the Vauxhall Corsa and Vauxhall Astra deliver a high-quality experience with that typical hatchback practicality added in for good measure. You’ll find each of these available via our website, too, so get in touch with one of the team members today to find out more.
