Get to Know the New Astra Sports Tourer

The latest generation of the Astra is the most striking we’ve ever seen, shaking the hatchback market ever since its release. It’s with this confidence that Vauxhall decided to step into the estate market with the Astra Sports Tourer – a variant that takes all the loved features of the original and brings them into a well-rounded, practical estate. Here, we’ll showcase everything you need to know about the new Astra Sports Tourer so you can find out what makes it so loved.

Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Overview

Let’s Talk about The Drive

We know the Astra is a driver’s car, and the same is to be expected in the Sports Tourer - even though we’ve moved from a hatchback to an estate. Besides the additional weight, it remains under your control with the same award-winning driving mechanics that gave the hatchback its competitiveness. It just goes to show how well Vauxhall has designed its control systems since even on a more practical Astra, you can still appreciate a great degree of manoeuvrability. Beyond this, three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) will allow you to tailor the Sports Tourer to your exact driving desires no matter where you go.

Coming in three trim levels: Design, GS, and Ultimate, the Astra Sports Tourer can be styled up to your liking. For example, the GS line comes with 17-inch wheels, tinted rear windows, and a black roof as standard. Those 17-inch wheels provide a great deal of comfort too by smoothing the road's imperfections which, in combination with a spongy chassis and suspension, makes long road trips a breeze. Finally, the plug-in hybrid and diesel powertrains are available for those who want a bit of extra range or economy, or perhaps it’s the turbocharged petrol that will kick your interest into gear, offering up to an impressive 53.4mpg.

Has the Interior Changed?

The interior hasn’t been massively changed from the hatchback model and for good reason. We’ve all heard the saying ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, and the Sports Tourer takes this to heart by holding onto the same conventional and ergonomic design that won so many awards and fans in the first place. An excellent Pure Panel cockpit with two responsive 10-inch screens comes as standard no matter what trim you choose, each being easy to navigate through entertainment, navigation, and the sorts.

Leather detailing is always something to smile about, especially when found on the steering wheel, door handles and more. There’s even a convenient pop-out bin at the bottom of the dashboard which makes you wonder why other car manufacturers haven’t thought of this earlier. The driver’s sport-styled seat gives back a balanced racer feel to the Sports Tourer, and pairing this with lumbar and height adjustment (as found on the front passenger’s seat too) brings you a true estate feel of luxury and comfort.

Last, But Certainly Not Least, The Practicality

Even with the seats up, the Sports Tourer holds a hefty 597 litres of illuminated boot space due to Vauxhall’s innovative Intelli-Space system. This also brings a 1,634-litre maximum capacity with the seats down when you need to pack big for travelling. The plug-in hybrid’s battery does take up some room it would in any car, but the boot space here only goes down to 516 litres which is more than enough to fit in what you need. In the back seats, there’s enough headroom to comfortably fit three very tall individuals, and they won’t be sat in dimness either as a great deal of light comes into that spacious area too.

The boot space itself is conveniently square-shaped which makes packing and arranging incredibly easy, and a great deal of additional compartment features comes as standard too. This includes side cargo nets, two-level loading floors, underfloor storage lockers, and more. Additional practicality comes your way with roof bars and a soundproof windshield as standard, while you can have the option to include a trailer hitch, sunroof, and more if you desire.
