The modern-day MG brand is a far cry from the classic sports car manufacturer that many people remember. With a renewed focus on electric vehicles and clean-running petrol and hybrids, the latest MG models are rooted in trustworthiness making them an ideal choice for drivers who want something dependable. This reliable nature has made it into a brand central to Eden’s new-car offerings, too, with many of MG’s latest models available today.
But, why is MG a trustworthy brand and how has it gained this reputation? Here, we’re going to take a look through some of MG’s latest successes and why they should factor into your next new car decision. Remember, Eden Motor Group currently has a wide range of MG vehicles to browse through by heading to our website.
Safety is a top priority for any new model and this is the case for the latest MG cars, too. In fact, one of MG’s most popular models - the electric MG 4 - scored a full five stars in Euro NCAP’s round of safety testing in 2022, returning scores of 83 and 80%, for adult and child occupant safety respectively. It was also awarded a high score of 78%, for its suite of safety assistance systems. It makes this MG electric vehicle one of the safest around.
It’s a similar story for the HS and ZS EV, which both received a full five-star rating when tested by Euro NCAP in 2019. The HS did particularly well for adult occupant safety with its 92%, rating, though the ZS EV was only just behind with its 90%, score in this area.
One of the reasons why MG cars can achieve top-notch safety ratings is their use of advanced assistance technology. Take the MG ZS EV, for instance, which is currently available with a £7,000 EV grant via Eden today. It uses MG’s Pilot suite of assistance technologies to ensure that each journey is as safe as possible.
This pack of advanced driver assistance systems - or ADAS, for short - includes features such as adaptive cruise control, which uses sensors to detect what is in front of the car, and Intelligent High Beam Control which allows the lights to automatically switch between high and low beam when it detects a vehicle ahead, preventing dazzling while still ensuring a good level of illumination. Active Emergency Braking (AEB) is another feature which is required by Euro NCAP for a five-star score and you’ll find it in a variety of MG cars. This clever system can detect an incoming impact and hit the brakes faster than a human ever could, lessening an impact in the process.
While older MG sports cars may not have offered the last word in reliability, it’s a different picture from modern-day cars from the brand. In a recent What Car? reliability survey, the MG 5 achieved a reliability rating of 96.1%, with only 15%,of cars showing some type of fault.
However, even with these cars, MG covered the cost of all the repairs, meaning that owners weren’t out of pocket even if an issue - rare as it is - did arise.
A warranty gives you the added peace of mind that you’re covered in case something does go wrong with your car. Fortunately, MG offers an extensive warranty with all of its new cars, covering a period of seven years from the point of first registration. That includes unlimited mileage for the first 12 months, and for 80,000 miles between 13 months and 84 months - whichever comes sooner.
The warranty can also be transferred between owners, so if you’re looking at a used MG then you could still find a model with some cover left in place. The warranty covers all major areas including the paintwork and even wear-and-tear items - excluding tyres - that fail as a result of a manufacturing defect during the first 12 months of the warranty period.
MG’s trustworthiness has come from its positioning of safety, reliability and technology right at the top of its priorities. As a result, MG’s latest cars are some of the most dependable around and they’re all there to choose from via the Eden website today. Head on over to find not only a wide range of MG vehicles but cars from a variety of companies and they’re all available to drive away today.
