Mazda’s sustainable future is a key talking point for the brand. Like so many manufacturers, Mazda is focused on making its processes cleaner and better for the environment through green initiatives and a greater use of electrification.
We currently stock a wide range of the latest new and used Mazda vehicles and they too have a basis in efficiency and sustainability. If you’d like to check out a wide range of Mazda vehicles, then head straight for our website. But what does the future hold for Mazda and how is it looking at sustainable development? Here, we’re going to take a look through the key points you need to know.
Electrification is a core part of Mazda’s sustainable future. It has already showcased a side of this with its new MX-30, but it sees battery-assisted vehicles having an even greater impact on its cars of the future. It says that ‘electric vehicles will become even more environmentally friendly’ as power sources become greener and more efficient, too.
Electrification also refers to hybrids, of course. We’ve already seen hybrid technology integrated into a number of cars, such as the range-topping plug-in hybrid CX-80, but it’s likely that this setup will be put to even greater use in some of Mazda’s upcoming vehicles.
Mazda has already made a commitment that it hopes to see through for 2030. By the start of the new decade, it hopes that a quarter of its products globally will be fully electric, with the remainder being electrified ‘in some form’.
Another sustainability commitment comes in the form of Mazda’s 2050 pledge, which will see the brand go carbon neutral ‘in all areas’ - that means its products, technology, manufacturing and sales.
While electrification is a core part of how Mazda will become greener and more efficient, it also sees carbon-neutral fuels - sometimes referred to as ‘e-fuels’ - as an alternative. Mazda believes that carbon-neutral fuels are ‘essential in accelerating the transition to clean mobility’, particularly for cars that are already on the road.
Carbon-neutral fuels can be blended together with traditional fuels and used in existing vehicles, meaning that you won’t notice a difference when it comes to filling up, or even in terms of performance. In fact, Mazda is already a member of the eFuel Alliance, which is a group that promotes CO2-neutral fuels and hydrogen as a ‘credible and real contributor’ to lowering emissions in transport.
Petrol and diesel engines still have a place on our roads, of course, and Mazda is working to make them cleaner and more efficient. Its current range of e-Skyactiv X engines - like the ones you’ll find in the new CX-30, which is currently available via Eden’s new car range - help burn fuel as efficiently as possible, yet while still delivering great performance.
With these cleaner engines, Mazda is able to make its current crop of combustion-engined cars even more efficient, including its hybrid vehicles.
Sustainable materials are a sure-fire way of lowering a car’s impact on the environment. Not only do they reduce the carbon emissions associated with the creation of a new vehicle, but they also make it easier to recycle a car when it does reach the end of its useful life.
Mazda is already including a number of sustainable materials in its new cars. You’ll find bio-plastics in a number of its new cars, as well as plant-based upholstery which is used for the seat covers. Check out the interior of the new MX-30 and you’ll find plenty of cork being used inside, too, and that’s something which is expected to become more commonplace in future Mazda vehicles.
By working together, Mazda believes that it has a better shot at achieving carbon neutrality. It’s why it recently partnered up with Subaru and Toyota to develop new engines which will work alongside electrification to make cars cleaner and better on fuel.
These compact engines could be used with electric motors in a hybrid setup, while full compatibility with carbon-neutral fuels would allow them to mimic the kind of experience you’d get from a regular petrol or diesel-powered car.
You’re already able to see some of Mazda’s sustainable future in its present-day cars and at Eden, you’re able to browse hundreds of the brand’s models - both new and used - to get up close and personal with these greener, cleaner vehicles.
