Hyundai has firmly established itself in the battery-powered area of the market with its innovative IONIQ range of vehicles. From the striking Ioniq 5 to the aerodynamic Ioniq 6, this range of cars is for those who like their electric vehicles to stand out from the crowd. You’ll find both the IONIQ 5 and 6 on sale through Eden, too, if you’d like to get behind the wheel of one right away.
Hyundai is looking to extend the IONIQ line-up with the introduction of the new IONIQ 7. While details of this innovative new model are scarce, we’ve looked into all of the reveals and teasers to find out some of the key information to know about the IONIQ 7.
This new model is set to sit as a flagship in Hyundai’s range and one of our clearest initial looks at it was Hyundai’s striking Seven Concept. While this would suggest that the name of the production-ready version would be Hyundai IONIQ 7, there have been reports that the brand will be instead calling it IONIQ 9.
Why? Well, the reasoning is that in doing so there would be more space for a smaller SUV to sit above the IONIQ 6 in the range. However, all is set to be revealed when the car is officially showcased towards the end of the year.
Our greatest insight into what the upcoming IONIQ 7 (or IONIQ 9) might look like is the Seven Concept. Hyundai calls it an ‘innovative space on wheels’ which has been designed to provide a ‘comfortable space to enjoy your time together or alone’. It’s got a flexible interior which can be adjusted depending on the situation, providing a comfortable living space or a working environment with the turn of a chair.
It’s all set to sit upon the same E-GMP platform that you’ll find underneath the Ioniq 6 and other Hyundai Group vehicles. The end result is that you’ll get loads of interior space and a handy flat floor. The Hyundai IONIQ 7 is set to be the firm’s largest model to date, offering space for up to seven people - so it’s due to be a good choice for larger families. It’ll be similar in size and shape to another popular car from within the Hyundai Group - the Kia EV9.
We’ve come to expect a striking design from modern-day Hyundai vehicles and it looks like that theme will continue with the IONIQ 7. As with the IONIQ 5 and 6, this concept includes Hyundai’s Parametric Pixel lighting technology which gives the front of the car a particularly futuristic look. There’s even a special active air flap system incorporated into each wheel to help reduce air resistance and enable the car to cut through the air more efficiently - though it’s not confirmed whether this function will make its way onto production models.
Something that you can see straight away when you hop into the cabin of an IONIQ 5 or 6 is just how much space there is. Much of this comes through a fully flat floor, which comes as a result of that clever platform that we mentioned earlier.
It’s expected that the IONIQ 7 will get much of the same - albeit with an additional third row of seats. Hyundai also showcased Swivelling Lounge Chairs on the Seven Concept and these can be switched around to provide a lounge-like experience inside. Again, it isn’t certain whether or not this will make it into production.
Something that remains central to the latest Hyundai models is technology. The Hyundai IONIQ 7 is expected to be no different in this regard. Up front, you’ve got a massive 27-inch display that’ll be able to run all of your most-used media and navigation functions, as well as smartphone integration systems like Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
The Secen Concept also features a clever ‘Hygiene Airflow System’ which takes cues from the kind of air filtration you’ll find on an aeroplane. It manages how air moves towards the car’s passengers and can ensure that there’s always a clean airflow moving through the cabin, filtering out harmful particles in the process.
In a bid to reduce the upcoming IONIQ 7’s environmental footprint even further, it’s expected to utilise a host of green materials. Taking the Seven Concept as inspiration, we can see a variety of eco-friendly materials used throughout, including bamboo wood and carpet, and interior paint used from renewable sources.
Remember, this is something we’ve already seen on the IONIQ 5, which uses a special bio paint made from plant-extracted oil as well as wood blends for the seat upholstery. The IONIQ 7 might be arriving later this year, but you can still get into a new Hyundai IONIQ model which features loads of the same great touches by heading to our website today.
