Winter is Coming: Why Now’s the Time to Upgrade Your Car

Winter is on the horizon and that means drivers are going to face darker, colder and trickier conditions. The threat of ice and snow is more present, too, while having a car which gets up to temperature more quickly can help to make things a lot more comfortable.

So if you’re on the fence about changing your car, here at Eden we’re happy to help. If you’re worried about how your current vehicle might cope with winter, swapping into something new can definitely make things better. Here are some of the key reasons to consider upgrading your car for the approaching winter.

Better lighting

One of the main downsides of winter is the increase in nighttime driving. With longer nights, having the right lighting to hand can really make a difference. If your existing car is struggling to properly illuminate the road ahead, then it could be time to make a switch.

Take the new Vauxhall Grandland Electric, for instance. As well as being one of the latest cars available here at Eden, it comes equipped with high-power LED headlights and LED tailights, ensuring that you’ve always got the best visibility possible. Ultimate-grade cars have Vauxhall’s clever Intelli-Lux HD headlight technology, too, which can automatically apply the high-beam headlights when needed. You get an illuminated strip across the bonnet, too.

More comfort-focused features

Very few people like being cold, and with many of the latest cars available here at Eden, you get a range of comfort-focused features which can help to make things more pleasant even on the chilliest of mornings.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5, for example, comes with heated front seats that can make the cabin of the car feel much cosier, while a heated steering wheel means you won’t have to drive in gloves when the temperatures plummet.

Pre-heating

We’ve got a great range of electric vehicles available here at Eden, covering some of the most popular brands around. But one thing that nearly all electric vehicles share - and a feature which is particularly useful during winter - is pre-heating, or pre-conditioning.

Essentially, what this feature allows you to do is pre-set a desired temperature for the car’s interior, alongside a time, and the car will automatically achieve this. It means that if you leave the house at 7am, you can set the car to warm up in time for your departure. In the process, it’ll clear the windscreen of any ice and, in some cars, can even activate the heated seats or steering wheel. Many models allow you to do this either via the main infotainment screen inside the vehicle or through a smartphone app. It’s a great feature to have during winter, and if you’d like to find out more about it, speak to a member of the Eden team today.

Four-wheel-drive

If you live in an area of the country which is prone to snow or ice, then four-wheel drive will prove essential. Here at Eden, we’ve got a range of both new and used four-wheel-drive vehicles which can provide the traction you need to get you where you need to be, no matter the conditions.

You can get Hyundai’s spacious seven-seater Santa Fe with four-wheel-drive, for instance, while the premium-feeling Mazda CX-80 also gets the grip-enhancing technology as standard. The Mazda also has specific driving modes which can tailor the car’s settings towards the conditions you’re in, with a dedicated ‘off-road’ mode helping to deliver the best possible traction when things are getting slippery.
