A surprising smoothness is found in the CX-60s union of an 8-speed gearbox and multi-clutch system, eliminating the clunky gear changes of a regular automatic.
Big expectations are made with Mazda’s hybrid system, and they are certainly met. The economy remains undiminished with the 2.5L hybrid system offering an official figure of 188mpg with the help of a 17.8kWh battery that offers a range of 39 miles. The battery also comes with a great lifetime guarantee too of up to 8 years or 100,000 miles and charges in just over 2 hours with a home charger or will top up normally through everyday driving.
A 3.3L diesel variant is around too with mild-hybrid technology, offering an inline-six engine that is punchy and well-controlled. This engine is available in 197bhp or a more powerful 250bhp variant, with the former bringing up to 56.5mpg. Premium alternatives to the CX-60 that bring these very same features add an extra zero onto the end of its price tag, which makes the CX-60 incredibly competitive, even in looks and styling.
A common fault that many find in large luxury SUVs is the overwhelming amount of technology and features. Mazda recognised the need for a simple and logical cabin that still offers everything you might need while driving at the touch of a button. Even on the standard models, you are offered an abundance of features tucked away behind an easy-going user interface. The Mazda CX 60 interior makes you immediately recognise that Mazda wanted to come into the luxury SUV market with guns blazing, and it sure has.
High-quality materials lay upon a flowing and impressive cabin design that hasn’t been overcomplicated, owing to Mazda’s focus on a driver-centric experience. A tactile switchgear gives you easy access and control of the heating features, while a responsive 12.3” digital screen is simplistic in its content and undistracting, yet with all the connective features you might need in a toggle of a click wheel.
New to the driving experience is the Driver Personalisation System. This system allows the driver to input their preferences for driving seat position, connective services, climate and so on, and the CX-60 saves this data. Next time you enter, the Mazda CX 60 interior cabin will adapt to your profile through facial recognition. Simple and effective. Size-wise, the headspace, leg room, and freedom for passengers to move are all generously given along with a 570L boot space, while child seating is also a breeze to install with large rear doors and ISOFIX points.
