All New Vauxhall Frontera

Vauxhall isn’t wasting any time in expanding its line-up of electrified vehicles. Following on from the eye-catching Grandland comes this - the Vauxhall Frontera. It’s a car which revives quite a famous nameplate and one which is currently available here at Eden.

But what does this new Frontera have in store and what do you need to know about it? Let’s take an in-depth look at this new Frontera.

Engines

You’ll be able to get the Vauxhall Frontera with both hybrid and electric setups. The former combines a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a compact electric motor and a small battery to develop 166bhp combined. If you do longer-distance trips, then this might be the Frontera for you.

Then, there are the electric versions. The first can deliver a range of up to 186 miles between chargers, while a larger battery variant can return up to 248 miles of range. Plus, because of its 100kW charging capability, you should be able to charge the Frontera from 20 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes.

Design

The new Vauxhall Frontera arrives with the eye-catching design that we’ve come to expect from modern Vauxhall cars. Up front, there is the brand’s ‘Vizor’ front end, which essentially blends the front grille and headlights along one solid line. The chunky wheel arch trims help to give the car an off-road-inspired feel and though the whole car measures the same as an Astra Hatchback, allows it to bring a little extra presence.

There’s the option to add a white contrast roof to the Frontera, too, throwing in some added variety against the car’s primary colour scheme.

Technology

As one of the latest cars to join Vauxhall’s range, it’ll come as no surprise that the Frontera is equipped with some of the sharpest technology the brand has to offer. Inside, there’s a ‘Pure Panel’ cockpit which includes two 10-inch widescreen displays, relaying key information to the driver while providing an access point to media and navigation functions. All versions get satellite navigation as standard, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity of your smartphone.

There’s even wireless charging for your smartphone so you’ll never be left without a fully topped-up device. Plenty of assistance systems ensure that the Vauxhall Frontera is as secure as possible, too, with headline functions being lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert.

Space

Any SUV needs to deliver a good level of practicality and you’ll find that in the new Vauxhall Frontera. Let’s start with the boot, which brings 460 litres of storage space and can deliver up to 1,594 litres of room when you fold down the rear seats. They fold in a 60:40 split, too, giving you some extra flexibility when it comes to storing bigger items. The boot is a two-level design, too, so you can hide valuables underneath the base of the boot and still store items above them.

The boxy design should give enough headroom for most, too, while extra comfort can be brought through additional packs which add features such as heated seats and a heated steering wheel.

Seven Seats

If you’re after a little more passenger space, then there’s an option with the new Frontera. You can add the ‘Seat Pack’ to GS Hybrid-grade cars and increase the overall seating capacity to seven. However, as standard, the Frontera still offers plenty of space in a five-seat configuration.

You can get the Vauxhall Frontera in two different specifications as well - Design and GS. However, even entry-level Design cars still get a wealth of standard equipment, including air conditioning, the aforementioned Pure Panel display setup and rear park assist with a 130-degree camera.

However, step up to GS grade and you’ll find automatic air conditioning added alongside front and rear parking sensors, a contrast roof with tinted privacy glass and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. In truth, the Design grade brings more than enough equipment for most.
