Motability at Eden Fiat

Available across the UK, Motability is a government-funded scheme that has been in place for over 35 years. It allows motorists who are disabled or of limited mobility to regain vehicular independence through the use of cars that have been made with Motability in mind. Through the exchange of their mobility allowance, Motability customers can be given access to a three-year lease on a brand new car.

Fiat operates under the belief that a lack of personal mobility shouldn't mean a compromise on style, and as such, offers a wide range of cars that are as stylish as they are accessible. The scheme is built upon accessibility, and at Eden Fiat, we want to help you find the right car for you and your Motability needs. There is also the option for installing adaptations to selected Fiat models, to make them suited to your individual requirements and to ease the driving process for you.

The Motability process also takes care of elements such as insurance, servicing and maintenance, simplifying the process of car ownership. Under the scheme you are eligible for a new vehicle every three years, or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) every five years. You can also nominate up to two named drivers for your car under the scheme.

If you have any questions regarding the nationwide Motability scheme, contact Eden Fiat today. You can visit us in person to discuss your Motability options, or use our contact telephone number to speak to us. Alternatively, you can leave your details with us through our online enquiry form, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

MOTABILITY - AM I ELIGIBLE?

Eden Fiat is fully dedicated to helping our customers of reduced mobility achieve independence through the use of Fiat vehicles. The Motability scheme is widely accessible, with several requirements in place for eligibility.

To ensure that you are eligible, you should be currently receiving any one of the following supplements or allowances, with at least 12 months remaining on the award length:

  • The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HMRC DLA);
  • The Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP);
  • The War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS); or
  • The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

As a Motability driver, you are eligible to nominate two named drivers on your behalf. You can also order a Motability vehicle should you be the parent or guardian of a child aged three or over, who is also in receipt of HMRC DLA benefits. Only one named driver under 21 can be nominated, and there are restrictions placed on drivers who are under 25. It is also possible that you will fail eligibility if you have a past driving-related conviction or disqualification.

Contact Eden Fiat today for more information on the Motability scheme, or to speak with us regarding your eligibility. Visit us in person to speak to one of our on-site Motability specialists, and we will be happy to make an appointment with you to explore your options.

Help at Advice at Eden Fiat

Maintaining your car consistently is an important part of ensuring that it is always working at its best. At Eden Fiat, we want to help you to make sure that your Fiat vehicle is always giving its best performance. To this end, we have compiled the following list of car maintenance elements of which you should be aware.

AIR CONDITIONING

If your air conditioning system goes unused for an extended period of time, it is possible that bacteria and fungal growths can take hold. This is due to a build-up of condensation combined with the warmth of your vehicle's engine. These can cause unpleasant odours as well as medical risks such as coughs, colds, and allergic reactions.

By having your air conditioning serviced with us, we can give you a full air conditioning service as well as an antibacterial cleanse to ensure your system remains spotless.

ANTI-FREEZE AND BRAKE FLUID

Particularly essential during the colder months, anti-freeze not only gives protection against freezing, but also prevents your engine from overheating. It is recommended to have the coolant of your vehicle checked with us every two years or every 24,000 miles.

Brake fluid transmits force from the brake pedal to the braking system, can withstand the heat generated during braking, and will not freeze during the winter. It should be checked every year to ensure that there are no leaks, and that water has not reduced the effective nature of your brake fluid.

Both fluids can easily be checked and serviced at Eden Fiat, using Fiat-approved liquids that are suited to and designed for your Fiat vehicle.

BRAKING AND SUSPENSION

Due to motorists failing to check their brakes and suspension systems, up to 17 per cent of MOT failures are due to failed brakes and 12 per cent to failed suspension. Eden Fiat will make sure that the front and rear brake pads and discs are checked, and that the condition of flexible brake hoses and cables is inspected. The front shock absorbers and springs will be checked, as will the rear suspension, the brake fluid level, and the wheel bearings.

Tyres

The condition of your tyres will directly impact the performance and safety of your vehicle, therefore it is of the utmost importance that their condition is regularly monitored. Tyre pressure should be checked every two weeks, when the tyres are cold. The tread depth should also be checked, and the whole tyre inspected for any cracks or bulges that may indicate damage. It is also a good idea to check your spare tyre at the same time as your in-use tyres.

FIAT MOTABILITY SCHEME: HOW IT WORKS AT EDEN

Designed to bring independence and mobility to disabled motorists, the Motability scheme is a national initiative that has been funded by the government. Since 1978, the Motability scheme has allowed drivers of reduced mobility access to up-to-the-minute vehicles which can be specifically adapted in order to meet individual needs and requirements.

Motability is available to disabled people who are currently receiving the following benefits:

  • The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA);
  • The Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP);
  • The War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS); or
  • The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Through the exchange of the government-funded mobility allowance, drivers have the potential to be eligible for a Motability car every three years, or a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) every five years.

Additionally, you will be able to test drive vehicles before you make a decision, to ensure that the car you choose is the ideal one for you. Other benefits of the scheme include the ability to nominate two named drivers with full insurance, servicing and maintenance, and a range of adaptations that are either free or at a reduced cost.

Eden Motor Group employs a specialist team of Motability staff members who are ready to discuss with you the benefits to which you will be entitled, and your vehicle options. You can arrange a no-commitment appointment with us in order to learn more about the Motability scheme and what it means for you, and can plan for vehicle adaptations that are applicable to your circumstances.

Contact Eden Fiat today if you would like to know more about the Motability scheme, and the Fiat vehicles that we can offer you through the scheme. You can visit us in person to speak to our Motability specialists, or get in touch with us via our telephone number or online enquiry form.

Close

A: The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP), the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS), or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP). You must have at least 12 months’ payments remaining on these benefits in order to be eligible.

Q: Who is in charge of the Motability scheme?

A: Motability is a national charity, which was set up in 1978 as a government initiative. Currently, the scheme is operated under Motability Operations Ltd, which is a private company under contract to the Motability charity. Car dealerships nationwide operate under the scheme, and at Eden Motor Group we are proud to be amongst them.

Q: I have ordered a Motability vehicle. How long will it take?

Close

A: This depends on the model ordered and the extent of adaptations which need to be made. If you are currently driving a Motability vehicle, a new Motability car cannot be collected until the end of your current contract.

Q: Are vehicle adaptations free?

Close

A: A number of adaptations to your vehicle are free, and can be arranged at the time of your vehicle order. Q: I am collecting my vehicle. What do I need to bring with me?

Close

A: To collect your Motability vehicle, you will need to bring with you the following: your Personal Identification Number (PIN), current proof of identity, and the driving license of the individual active driver. If you have lost your PIN, it may be possible to replace it; contact the Motability Customer Services team on 0300 456 4566.

Q: How often do I need to service my Motability vehicle?

Close

A: This depends on the car in question. Contact Eden Fiat to discuss your vehicle and its servicing options.

Q: Do season-specific additions to my car count as adaptations?

Close

A: It is possible to have additions and accessories such as snow tyres or chains fitted to your vehicle, but these do not fall under the range that Motability covers.

Q: I have adaptations on my vehicle. Would it be possible for me to keep it longer than the stated contract length?

Close

A: Depending on your vehicle and the extent to which it has been adapted, there is the possibility to extend the contract for a further two years, if desired. When your contract is coming to an end, you will receive a letter informing you of this three months beforehand. If extending the contract length is available to you, it will be stated within the letter.
