Motability scheme FAQs

There's much to consider before and during your Motability application. Below are some of the questions most frequently asked of our team.

Q. I've already ordered or own a Motability vehicle, will the scheme help with the costs or any adaptations?

A. Unfortunately, the scheme does not cover retrospective costs. You can find out more by visiting our eligibility page.

Q. Can I add adaptations during my agreement?

A. Yes, but you'll need to inform RSA Motability (the scheme insurance provider) and the Customer Service team to make sure your insurance covers the changes.

Q.What adaptations are available?

A. Vehicle modifications are typically categorised as driving, stowage and access adaptations. They may include a steering wheel ball, left foot accelerators or rooftop wheelchair stowage. You can find out more on our Motability adaptations page.

Q.What is covered by a Motability lease plan?

A. As well as a vehicle, your plan covers insurance, servicing and maintenance, RAC breakdown assistance, annual car tax, Kwik Fit replacement tyres, windscreen repairs/replacement, a 60,000-mile mileage allowance over three years and some adaptations.

Q. Can I get help with mobility costs?

A. Yes, the scheme does provide financial help for those who are struggling to afford their mobility solution. Click here for full details.

Q. Who is eligible for the Motability scheme?

A. Motorists who receive one of the following mobility allowances from the government are generally eligible:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA);
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP);
  • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS); and
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

Q. How do I apply for the scheme?

A. You can do so with the help of any supporting Eden dealership. Our Motability specialists will be there to support you throughout the process of finding your vehicle and placing an order.

Q. Can I change my Motability vehicle before my lease agreement ends?

A. Unless you have a valid reason to change cars before your lease ends, you will not be able to. You should contact the charity on 0300 456 4566 if you feel you do have a valid reason.

Q. Who can use my Motability vehicle?

A. If you order a car through the scheme for personal use, you can nominate two named drivers to make use of it too.

Q. What happens when my car needs repairs?

A. You should contact your Motability provider directly to arrange for repairs to be made. General wear and tear will be covered by your regular payment, but any cosmetic enhancements will need to be funded personally.
